Taking a look at one feature on CodePlex that is much slower than it needs to be, due to indiscriminate use of UpdatePanels and bloated ViewState, and then comparing it to similar functionality on Stack Overflow to illustrate how much more efficiently the same feature can be implemented.

This is a great post. It has always amazed me that Microsoft managed to get the .NET framework right, yet I have never seen a website implementation by Microsoft that was even remotely acceptable. Surprisingly, the CodePlex nuances are actually minimal compared to other disasters that I've seen (e.g., SharePoint). At least the CodePlex UI is decent (in my opinion). It's just that the implementation (behind the scene) is poor. Fortunately, I believe that these issues can be resolved.

It's actually a shame because sites like these give ASP.NET a bad name. Microsoft shouldn't cut corners on websites like CodePlex because they have the potential to destroy public perception of the ASP.NET platform.

I can't wait for MVC to replace the default ASP.NET way, particularly within MS.
I reckon as soon as it hits 1.0, MS will internally jump on aboard. That said, http://store.microsoft.com/home.aspx looks MVCy
