I think the title says it all. A great rant from an experienced ASP.NET developer.

I agree with most of these points. The problem stems from the decision to model ASP.NET webforms on the rapid GUI capabilities of VB6 and winforms. ASP.NET MVC is a breath of fresh air as it doesn't try to hide HTML and HTTP from the developer.

This post feels like the author learned ASP.Net from the old MCAD books instead of looking at best practices on when to use server controls and when not to. While I agree to an extent with the items listed (especially the single form comment), there's a lot of ways to ease these pain points to make things work better.

Wow, I hope that I'm not going to have the same opinion after 8 years of asp.net exposure :) I remember having similar frustrations when I started with asp.net (coming from the php world) but after a while you do learn to minimize or for most of the points even avoid the drawbacks and appreciate the many advantages just my $1/50

Aww, cmon guys. Don't you have a sense of humor? Don't you ever take a step back and look at what you're doing from the outsider's perspective?
