This is one of the few things I'm actually very excited about in Windows 8. It's one of the nicer things that phones/tablets have gotten right that need to be ported to the desktop experience as well.

This is excellent. I can imagine all sorts of uses for this, especially given the example, which demonstrates a custom protocol to return map data. Superb!

It will be interesting. They're putting a lot of focus on the tablets with Windows 8. Part of the reason is there isn't too many desktops to run it on yet. Once the hardware meets up I think will see the broader picture which should be exciting for programmers.
