Am I missing something or is only the release candidate on their download site? http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/trial-software.aspx

I followed the link in the story, which stated that "SQL Server 2008 Express and SQL Server Compact editions are available for free download today at http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver".

Express Edition (and CE?) will be available at the end of the month.

Sql Server may well be in RTM, but it has dependant components that are still in BETA.

It requires .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 (still in Beta) - and if you want the BI studio it will need Visual studio 2008 sp1 (still in Beta)

How can a product, whose dependant components are in BETA go to RTM, i find that a bit confusing. Correct me if im missing something, but surely, should there be any breaking change in any of the dependancies when they those dependancies reach their final release it will mean a 'HotFix for sql 2008' ? The full solution doesnt look like 100% RTM ready for production servers, it looks more like a public Beta in my opinion...

SQL Server 2008 requires VS 2008 SP1 only when installed on a machine with Visual Studio 2008. On servers that shouldn't be a problem (expect TFS2008 servers). It comes with .NET 3.5 SP1 RTM.

Visual Studio 2008 SP1 will be released on Monday and .NET 3.5 SP1 redistributable probably, too.
