SharePoint Disaster Recovery And Backups(www.shaundanielz.com)

submitted by shaundshaund(20) 2 years, 3 months ago

A customer asked about SharePoint backups and what was the recommended approach. I mentioned the standard SharePoint backups through the GUI and via stsadm. I also mentioned that SQL backups could be done of the SharePoint databases. I wasn't really happy with this answer as it doesn't provide a strategy for disaster recovery. So I did some research and discovered that Microsoft had released a full 40 page white paper on the topic. read more...

Setting AD Properties using the new AccountManagement API (teebot.be)

submitted by teebotteebot(65) 2 years, 5 months ago

So I'm currently programming a lightweight utility to manage LDAP objects and I came to use the new AccountManagement API introduced in .NET 3.5 because it's way easier and more object-oriented than DirectoryServices. This new namespace, as I see it, is just provided as a friendlier way to query an LDAP server and is actually built on top of the plain DirectoryServices bits. And it shows... For example you have to dispose all objects performing a search (FindIdentity) read more...

Recover your Active Directory from Disasters with New Book from Packt(packtpub.com)

submitted by AnusoniaAnusonia(15) 3 years, 9 months ago

Packt is pleased to announce the release of its new book on disaster recovery for an Active Directory. Written by Florian Rommel, Active Directory Disaster Recovery acts as a practical step-by-step guide which will help users to plan and implement a disaster recovery plan for an Active Directory. Active Directory (AD) is a technology created by Microsoft that provides a variety of network services, including LDAP-like directory services, Kerberos based authentication, and DNS based naming and other network information. However, if Active Directory is a part of the backbone of the network and infrastructure, the guide to bring it back online in case of an incident needs to be as clear and concise as possible. This book describes the most common scenarios while creating a directory and how to properly recover the infrastructure from them. The first half focuses on planning and shows users how to configure their AD to be resilient; the second half is response focused and meant as a reference in which different disaster scenarios are discussed. It contains commands and steps for each process, and includes information on how to plan for and leverage technologies in case of a disaster. Network security professionals will find this book useful for both, creating an Active Directory Disaster Recovery plan and recovering quickly once the disaster has struck. The book is out now and is available from Packt. For more information, please visit: http://www.packtpub.com/active-directory-disaster-recovery/book read more...

ActiveDirectory permission exception through a network share(hockblogs.net)

submitted by hockmanhockman(505) 3 years, 10 months ago

Hi there, Today I recieved the following error when starting a .NET application from a network share: .NET 2.0 error: Request for the permission of type 'System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesPermission, System.DirectoryServices, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' failed. This error occurred when trying to run code that accessed the System.DirectoryServices namespace. Thanks to Tim Huffam I was being able to fix this within seconds! To work around this, just open up your .NET 2.0 security: 1. Start the .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration tool (from Administrative Tools). 2. Expand Runtime Security Policy. 3. Expand User - Code Groups and right-click on All_Code and select Properties. 4. On the Membership Condition tab make sure All Code is selected in the dropdownlist. 5. On the Permission Set tab make sure FullTrust is selected in the dropdownlist. 6. Click OK 7. Under Runtime Security Policy, expand Machine - Code Groups and right-click on All_Code and select Properties. 8. Perform steps 4 - 6. read more...
