Proposed DotNetKicks Redesign(pietschsoft.com)

submitted by crpietschmanncrpietschmann(11.3k) 4 years, 7 months ago

The current skin of DotNetKicks just isn't quite there. It doesn't look as cool as it could. And I'm sure it's just because the time hasn't been spent to make it look good. So, I thought I'd put together a mockup design that is based off the current design, but with some improvements. I like it, but the test is if any of you like it too. Let me know what you think.

It looks almost the same as it is now, just without the side advertisement and changing the background color of the boxes from green to gray

There's a couple redesigns already done for DNK in the code repository at http://dotnetkicks.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Misc/Designs/XHTML%20and%20CSS/

It looks pretty good to me, why don't you join forces on the new design?

I don't really like it. What's the new thing in that ? What does it bring to DNK ? Gradient .. not that much is it ?

If we really want a redesign of DNK - we should like Haacked or Scott Hanselman : make a contest and the winner gets publicity on site.

This is more of a design tweak than a redesign. I personally prefer the current version although it is a quite ugly design. Any new site redesign should probably start from a blank slate - forget the current colours and structure.

We do support multiple templates and you are welcome to turn this into one if you like. We'll soon allow users to choose whichever template they like.

That was more or less what i thought too. No reason to reinvent the square wheel

Thanks for all the feedback! I didn't really think my design would get implemented; I pretty much did it to maybe inspire those with more graphic skills to come up with something better than the current design.
