Does this actually work? I tried this, but it didn't speed up my boot process at all. I am running an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM.

This doesn't make your machine boot faster. What it allows you to do is set the number of processors and the amount of RAM the machine is allowed to see/use.

Or you could read the MSDN. "This switch can help you troubleshoot performance problems and defective CPUs. " http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833721
