How to get more than 3GB in Windows Vista 32-bit (geekzilla.co.uk)

Out if the box, Vista (32-bit) only detects a maximum of 3GB of RAM. You're probably gutted if you just bought a 4GB PC. All is not lost...

This topic is much more complex (and technical) that the author leads us to believe. Jeff Atwood has a fairly complete post on the topic http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000811.html Though you really need to skim through the comments to get the full story.

In the end, PAE doesn't really matter unless your hardware (and BIOS) support the 64-bit address space anyhow. And at that point, you're probably better going with Vista 64-bit anyhow as PAE is practically abandoned (by Microsoft) for Vista and future OS's as its just not stable enough.

But do read for yourself...
