Without governance SharePoint Server as an Enterprise Content Management Platform is nothing more than a gimmick that although it appeared very impressive initially, it will bring little or no benefit to your organisation or enterprise over a longer period of time, it will become a burden to maintain and business will soon forget it leaving it completely ravaged from years (or months) of misuse to some poor consultants to migrate it in that state to a new version of the same or, most likely, different platform, as by then client would think that the fault all along was with SharePoint (or any other ECM platform in that unfortunate situation).
