Gah. Blogs that don't allow anonymous comments suck ass. Problems with viewing software development as engineering: A pound is a pound is a pound. Always has been, always will be, amen. There is no analogous stability in software creation. Software is continuously in flux; the strength of specific varieties of carbon steel is not. Software is built iteratively; buildings must be completed before they can be inhabited. I could go on and on. For every similarity an obvious dissimilarity can also be found. People who think software development IS engineering and SHOULD BE treated that way FAIL. Go read the Mythical Man Month.
