When we were creating CodeSmith Insight we made the decision not to use Flash early on. Although sometimes it caused us to do a little more work, I think it was worth it in the long run.

A am no Flash fanatic, nor do I believe in developing all-Flash sites, but there are a number of incorrect statements in this article. So many that I am entitling this comment:

"Top 10 Reasons Web Developers Should Take This Article With A Grain Of Salt"

1) Flash works extremely well for client/server implementations
2) Flash works extremely well for dynamically driven content
3) Flash apps can be localized easily
4) SWF is open and not the only way to have full control - see OpenLaszlo.
5) There are many, many, many more apps that output SWF/FLV than just Swish
6) You've been able to support the back button in Flash sites for probably at least a decade (most developers are obviously lazy)
7) There are at least two ways to support the back button that I am aware of
8) Any project in any development platform can have poor maintainability and this is not limited to Flash
9) Javascript based animation is not on part with Flash animation beyond simple effects
10) The user interface is awkward only because the developer doesn't know what they're doing. The same will be true even if they purely use HTML/CSS/Javascript.
