Completely agree. Until people actually hold real phones and spend some time using the new OS, the overall outcome is still a big unknown. I've used the prototype phones for a few minutes at a time, and have liked what I see so far. The fact that Microsoft will now be able to control the updates rather than the carriers will be a huge benefit.

The biggest problem is that the UI represents such a different way to interact with the phone that it will take some people time to get used to it. Once you do, however, you should see that the UI makes a lot of sense.

Seeing some of the upcoming applications being developed by developers who don't professionally create mobile applications (and even those that do), there are a lot that look really great and I can't wait to get a real WP7 device and install them.

It seems that a lot of the negative criticism WP7 is getting is due to the fact that it is being initially targeted at the consumer market rather than the enterprise or even the developer market. As a developer, there are a lot of things that I would want to see, but I definately shouldn't be considered a mainstream everday consumer.
