There are a lot of products, tools, frameworks available in the Microsoft .Net platform. The choice of tool depends more on the requirements and the technical constraints of the environment. Regarding Silverlight, nobody predicted that HTML5, smartphones, tablets will become so popular. Web plugins including Flash do not work in mobile OS, especially iOS.

In the last few years, I have been impressed by good developments in the ASP.NET world - especially MVC, NuGet, jQuery etc. The announcements regarding these products have been accurate and well received within the developer community.
