Netflix to Lay Off 50. Blames Silverlight.(money.cnn.com)

In a corporate blog post today, Netflix (NFLX) said 50 of its technical specialists in its customer service group will be let go at the start of next year. The reason? The company isn’t blaming the economy, it’s blaming Microsoft’s (MSFT) Silverlight

I find this a very misrepresenting article. It has such a negative connotation when really, from the business aspect of it, SL has really helped Netflix. It's easier to use, develop and maintain so they would be wasting their money keeping much of the underutilized tech group around. Props to Netflix for using a technology that makes them more efficient and profitable.

The linked CNN version of the article is a copy from another website. As mentioned, the article heading is poor and misrepresents the issue.

Yea, it ends up making Microsoft sound bad and heartless but it is basically Silverlight helped NetFlix improve efficiency. I feel bad for the people that lost their jobs.

I actually loved the heading after I read the story, of course I'm a huge fan of irony, hyperbole and juxtaposition.
