In the Firestarter event on Dec 02, the next release of Silverlight i.e. version 5 was announced. It will be available as a beta in the first half of 2011. The final version would be released in the second half of 2011. Silverlight 5 enables the developers to create premium media experiences and develop rich applications across browsers, desktop and devices. Silverlight 5 Premium Media Experience includes:SL 5 provides Hardware video decode, that means it now supports GPU accelerated video decode which will reduce the load on the CPU for HD video which will significantly improve the media experiences on low end systems and enable them to play HD content.
