Semantic Versioning 2.0.0-rc.1

I see all too many people treat version numbers like a simple counter. As soon as the patch level hits 9 they increment the minor version number...hell, even I did it back when I first started programming. While this might seem like common sense or old hat to some of us, a lot of people don't understand why this type of versioning system is important.
You have to admit though, it is fun to have a completely irrelevant versioning scheme, like Knuth's "add one more digit of pi" approach.
