Windows 7's XP Mode is essentially a Windows XP virtual machine that runs in the new Windows 7 version of Virtual PC. This new edition of Virtual PC includes cool features such as seamless windows. The main reason I'm interested in this is to run older versions of Internet Explorer for testing purposes. IE8's compatibility mode does a pretty good job of emulating IE7 but there are differences, so I investigated how to get "real" IE7 running under Windows 7's XP Mode, without losing IE6.

(Developer and Platform Group, Microsoft Ireland) So having just installed IE8 beta 2 today I thought I'd have a go at creating a Webslice for my blog...Turns out it's pretty easy, and I was even able to put a version of the Popfly mashup from my last post in my preview (added my blog's logo to make the slice a bit more visually appealing - clearly I missed my vocation as a designer). Since it uses a mashup, it has active content (e.g. javascript) so as a result I needed to use an Alternative Display Source.

Unlike beta 1, I am gladly surprised by this version! IE8 really improve the way you browse the web. The IE team seems to have listened to users more than usual, did a strong research on how people browse the web, and as a result worked a lot on user experience.

The Internet Explorer Beta 2 was released yesterday introducing quite some new features about which you already probably read in one of the various like the IE8 Homepage or the announcement on the official IE Blog. However there may be a feature that isn't mentioned too often which is the fact that now with beta2 RIA technologies like Silverlight are also supported in the flyout of a WebSlice. This is something that wasn't available with Beta1. And since it is not as obvious to integrate a Silverlight portion into a WebSlice I will give you a littel walkthrough on how to do that. First of all I want to introduce you to the concept of the different sources from which a WebSlice can retrieve its information. To understand that we first need to differentiate between the two main components of a slice which is the button in the favorites Bar on the one hand.

I noted yesterday that Microsoft only had 11 more days within which to deliver the more customer-focused IE 8 Beta 2 if it were to hit its August deadline. According to one well-placed tipster, who requested anonymity, the current plan is for Microsoft to make IE 8 Beta 2 available for download from its Web site by August 28. And the final version is tracking for a November release, the tipster added.

As the beta test of IE8 recently became available we are quickly approaching the release of another version of Internet Explorer. Much frustration has been expressed about the issues (or supposed issues ) in this beta. Some of this concern is definitely understandable, however, I think some of the negativity is present just because IE is a Microsoft product.

IE8 fails the copies of ACID2 due to the cross domain security checks IE performs for ActiveX controls.
