Microsoft reveals .NET code(reine.se)

Today it was revealed that Microsoft will release the sourcecode to parts of the .NET Framework. This means you won't have to peek through disassemblers such as Reflector any longer to understand what's going on under the hood (yes, the .NET Framework libraries are unobfuscated and the IL can be reverse-engineered). read more...

I've suggested a few times that Microsoft could go beyond just cooperating with the open source community and actually ship open source code. For instance, Paint.NET is a great alternative to MS Paint, so not just bundle it? Tonight I had a very long conversation with someone who is in a position to really understand both Microsoft and open source. Now I understand why my suggestion - though well intentioned - was hopelessly naive. read more...

Why not make ASP.NET Web Matrix shared source? (pietschsoft.com)

Web Matrix was a really cool tool, and it's obviously been rendered obsolete by Visual Studio Express. However, there are still alot of really cool things done in the code, and I think it would be beneficial to the community if the source code were made available. read more...
