In VSTS terminology, workitem is the data representation of any abstract entity which needs to be tracked over a period of time. Workitems store the data in the form of records in Team Foundation Server. Each workitem once created store the status of various data elements like identification, state, creation date, change history, links, attachments, quantification of work done etc.
