Beyond YSlow - Squeeeezing out website network performance(www.troyhunt.com)

How much improvement can be made on an already well-optimised site, I mean one that scores very well against existing performance yardsticks? How much faster can you go without spending dollars on a CDN? Turns out there are big gains to be made very quickly – and it costs just a tiny bit of development time.

Good article, there's always more to optimization than "let's use a cdn". I wonder if your sprite still would have reduced site load times by a significant amount even before being run through smush.it? Did you happen to test that?

Oh yeah, there's still plenty of advantage without the Smushing. This saved me 5.19KB so even at 100KB/s (a slow connection for most people), it would only add about 5ms pre-Smush. I was just being ultra-pedantic :)
