Integrating Exception Handling Into the Development Cycle

The time to start thinking about exception handling is right after you click File > New Project. Exception handling shouldn't be something you "tack-on" to an application after the fact. Here, I discuss a practical approach to incorporating exception handling into the normal code-writing process.

Using multiple forms on an ASP.NET web forms page

I came across this simple technique while watching Building great standards based websites for the big wide world with ASP.NET 4.0.

The cool thing about being able to have multiple forms on the same page is that you don't have to use JavaScript to fix the default button problem, or use unnecessary ASP.NET web controls or logic on the server (like the Response.Redirect method). The drawback, for some, is that you cannot have the forms inside the form (web form) with the runat="server" attribute, which means that you cannot use all of the ASP.NET web controls.

Download Logical Query Processing Poster

Earlier this year, I had written article on SQL SERVER - Logical Query Processing Phases - Order of Statement Execution and I had asked one question to readers. I got very good response for this question. Today, I am going to discuss about one of the errata I have made there. I had displayed the Logical Query Processing order, where I had incorrectly listed the last two operations. I have listed the operations as ORDER BY first and TOP afterwards. The fact is that TOP is always executed first and ORDER BY after that.

How to deliver True HD with Silverlight and Smooth Streaming

Learn how to deliver Web video with the quality and reliability of HDTV over HTTP. Dramatically increase viewing times and lower costs using this scalable online video delivery technology.

High Definition Web video has long been promised, but plagued by the quality of the video (either too small or too blurry) and the reliability of the playback (constant rebuffering or stuttering). These two variables are interrelated: increasing the quality requires higher bandwidth, and using less bandwidth to minimize re-buffering sacrifices video quality.

Fault Tollerance in Windows Azure

Ever since we announced Windows Azure there has been speculation about how reliable it will be and how we will insure that your application will continue to operate reliably in the face of changes to your application or the underlying software.

Although we did say that we use multiple role instances and update domains to insure that your allocation has no single point of failure it was not until recently that we exposed more of the details of how this will work

Now we have published the documentation on how this will work.

Sending encrypted e-mail with C#
