Of the three methods, the first looks like the only method to maintain FK relationships. My real question though, is why would you bother with this at all. I'm sure there are reasons related to aesthetics on one level or another. I suppose you might also run out of IDs at some point, but with int (or bigint) theree are a lot of IDs to use and most systems that I can imagine would never reach that limit.

Been around quite a while... maybe too long. :) I was just thinking though, that since I already subscribe to his blog, I see (almost) everything twice. And if I subscribe to his blog, a fair amount of DNK readers probably do as well. I'm not saying there's a problem that needs a solution. Just pointing out what is already obvious.
