Building a jQuery Plug-in to make an HTML Table scrollable(www.west-wind.com)

submitted by rstrahlrstrahl(7226) 11 months, 28 days ago

Table displays in limited space require some rendering alternatives. While paging is a common way to address fixed size displays, it's not an end-all solution. Sometimes it's necessary to display larger amounts of data in a small fixed space on an HTML page. Scrollable list are fairly easy to do with most HTML structures, but HTML tables are notoriously difficult to manage when it comes to scrolling. In this post I describe a jQuery plug-in that attempts to make any table scrollable by decomposing and reassembling the table into two distinct areas. read more...

If you are a fellow blogger or Webmaster then read on, because this might interest you somewhat. When I first started out blogging, I added Google Analytics to my site to track visitors and stats. It's a great free tool and generally a really accurate service, and I'm certain that millions of people use this service. 6,953 reasons why I still let Google host jQuery for me(encosia.com)

submitted by pycckipyccki(357) 1 year, 8 months ago

It’s been nearly two years since I wrote about using Google’s CDN to host jQuery on your public-facing sites. In that post, I recommended it due to three primary benefits that public CDNs offer: decreased latency, increased parallelism, and improved caching. Though the post has been overwhelmingly well-received, concerns have been raised as to whether or not the likelihood of better caching is truly very significant. Since the efficacy of that benefit depends entirely on how many other sites are using the same CDN, it takes quite a bit of research to make an objective case either way. I’ve never been happy about responding with vague answers. Caching probability is a valid concern and deserves to be taken seriously. So, I decided to cobble together an HTTP crawler, analyze 200,000 of the most popular sites on the Internet, and determine how many of those are referencing jQuery on Google’s public CDN. read more...
