Pick your Windows Azure Operating System version!(blogs.msdn.com)

submitted by wzackwzack(1968) 2 years, 4 months ago

The Windows Azure Platform is currently based on a modified version of Windows Server 2008 R2. The Windows Azure philosophy is for Microsoft to take care of all the infrastructure requirements and let you focus on solving your business problem. One requirement that has had customers curious is how we will handle the issue of operating system versioning, in other words, do they automatically have to have their application run under a recently upgraded or patched version of the OS without their approval? Now we have an answer. With the addition of a new Service Configuration file parameter osVersion, you can now specify the version of the OS that you want your application to run under. read more...

Can’t Touch This…Silverlight Touch API Sample Download(blogs.msdn.com)

submitted by jbarnesjbarnes(3479) 2 years, 4 months ago

Multitouch support in Windows 7 allows applications to blur the lines between computers and the real world. Touch-optimized applications entice users to touch the objects on the screen, drag them across the screen, rotate and resize them, and flick them across the screen by using their fingers. Multitouch requires an environment (platform and operating system, hosting application such as a browser) that can propagate the touch input to an individual application, such as your Silverlight-based application. read more...

Windows 7 Optimizations on Solid State Drives(blogs.msdn.com)

submitted by zhimingzhiming(1135) 2 years, 4 months ago

Be default, Windows 7 disables Superfetch, ReadyBoost, as well as boot and application launch prefetching on Solid State Drives (SSD) with good random read, random write and flush performance. These technologies were all designed to improve performance on traditional hard disk drives (HDD), where random read performance could easily be a major bottleneck. Because of the design changes, Windows 7 powered PCs with SSDs run fast. To understand how these design changes improve overall system performance, read this team blog post by the Windows 7 product group. read more...

Securing REST-Based Services with Access Control Service(blogs.msdn.com)

submitted by bobfamiliarbobfamiliar(3648) 2 years, 4 months ago

The Access Control Service (ACS), part of Windows Azure platform AppFabric, makes it easy to secure REST-based services using a simple set of standard protocols. In addition to enabling secure calls to REST-based services from any client, the ACS uniquely makes it possible to secure calls from client-side script, and enables federation scenarios with REST-based services. This webcast will provide a tour of ACS features and demonstrate scenarios where the ACS can be employed to secure REST-based WCF services and other web resources. You’ll learn how to configure ACS, learn how to request a token from the ACS, and learn how applications and services can authorize access based on the ACS token. read more...
