If you were developing larger Silverlight/WPF applications and trying to keep things like styles, control templates and other resources organized it can become really hard. Prior to Silverlight 3 it was hell to be honest. But then nice people from Microsoft introduced lovely little feature called MergedDictionaries that allows you to combine the resources from different places in your application.

ASP.NET ClientIDs and NamingContainer naming are a nuisance when working with jQuery as these long IDs complicate finding elements on the page. In this post I show a very simple way to retrieve munged ClientIDs by just their ID names with a small helper function that still returns the jQuery wrapped set.

Hosting an OS in a virtual machine can be very useful for developers, but sometimes one pays a price in terms of performance. In Windows 7 developers can get improved performance in virtual machines by native booting a VHD. First create a Virtual PC that hosts Windows 7, then restart your computer, and finally boot directly into the VHD that contains the Windows 7 OS. When you native boot a VHD your virtual machine runs very close to the metal; performance is greatly enhanced and you have much better support for OS features that may not be available inside a standard Virtual PC.

Just in case if somebody doesn't know what YSlow is? YSlow is Firefox add-on integrated with Firebug. It analyzes web pages and tells you why they are slow. You can run it on you project and see your grade. You can do some easy improvements and maybe even get D grade. However to get higher then D grade becomes a real challenge. Below I will describe how I got A grade (100 points) on my web blog application.

Most posts on this topic focus on disabling the submit button that causes the post. This works fine when you only have one submit control. But, if you have multiple buttons and/or link buttons that can cause a post and want to avoid potential conflicts if a user clicks a second submit control before the first one has been processed then this is really simply approach.
