Writing/Logging Bugs....Must read for QA people (sanjevsharma.blogspot.com)

submitted by sanjev.sharmasanjev.sharma(579) 3 years, 7 months ago

Writing is easy, but writing clearly is hard. When it comes to write bug explanations... well, writing seems to get even harder, as far as the IT professional is concerned. In my life as a developer (especially while working at Graycell Technologies) I have seen a lot of bug reports that are either incomplete or missing critical reproducible steps, or have no explanation of why the results are wrong. Juts Imagine (my dear testers) if you were a developer and you got this kind of bug report, won’t you feel frustrated? The best you could do is to mark the case as not reproducible and assigned it back to the tester. The tester, would, in turn would, insisted that the bug was there and, well, there went a football-kicking session. Congratulations, you've wasted a few non-productive minutes on just trying to get message across. All these wasted minutes would add up, resulting in a loss in productivity. And at last it is always a developer’s ass to be kicked read more...

Windows Installer Useful Advice(developertechno.blogspot.com)

submitted by mywebblog79mywebblog79(210) 3 years, 7 months ago

VBScript Custom Actions are Not Windows Script Host It's a common assumption that VBScript CAs can use WSH constructs based on the WScript object model. But you cannot use script code such as WScript.CreateObject or WScript.Quit or WScript.Echo. The WSH environment provides the WScript object model, just as VBScript in a Web page uses an IE object model. Windows Installer scripting supplies objects such as the Session object for interacting with the install. You don't need WScript.CreateObject anyway—VBScript has a CreateObject method that does the same thing. read more...

C# in Depth: Bluffer's Guide to C# 3(csharpindepth.com)

submitted by schalkvanwykschalkvanwyk(1335) 3 years, 7 months ago

Obviously C# in Depth teaches the new features of C# 3 in depth. However, if you want to bluff it for the moment (just until your copy of the book arrives, of course) - welcome to the bluffer's guide. This isn't intended to give you enough information to be useful when coding - but you can pretend you know what you're talking about in suitably geeky company. More seriously, it will give you a very rough overview to give some context if you choose to investigate a particular feature further. read more...
