The more I read about this, it seems like a nice step forward for those who programmed with native code but sort of a step backwards for .NET developers. While .NET will run on top of WinRT, the next version of the framework isn't there yet, so we're left with something in between. I feel like this will drive a lot of developers away from .NET into WinRT and native code.

It looks like WinRT has ensured C++/COM is going to stay. I was looking for some fundamentals of metroapps - maybe a simple metro program built using C#.

Not sure where the are going with this but I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with Windows 8 and WinRT trying to compete with some of Apple products or expand into a new market? Maybe that sounds strange but a lot of the articles I'm coming across have to do with tablets or smartphones competing with an Apple product.
