Windows 8 is already out in Developer Preview form. A new way of building applications in Windows 8 has already been introduced. Lets put up a note to let you know how to build applications for WinRT. In this post you will learn how you can use Capabilities for your application and build your first basic WinRT Metro Applications.

Will the capabilities and permissions security features be available to desktop apps as well? Or only metro apps?

No, its only for Metro Applications. Desktop application will run normally.

I'm getting anxious. Need to find a machine I can do without for a few months to use for a Windows 8 install. I tried numerous options for VM and none worked. Any suggestions welcome.

Interesting, we have desktop as a tile :) When the desktop tile is used, is it possible to open and close applications like we normally do!?
