Sql server 2005/2008 support Unicode characters so you can present your data in any language so for example if your Database collation is (a Latin) and you want to store Arabic language words ,you need to define Unicode data type columns like(nchar, nvarchar, ntext) to stored your data properly and to avoid the question marks problem (???) except if your database collation is Arabic and in this case it does not need to define your columns as a Unicode type because you can use the type like(char, varchar, text) to store Arabic language because in this case the collation is responsible to display your character language.
