Crafting a caching strategy is critical to building effective Web apps. It's only possible when you know what options are available and how to integrate them. Windows Server AppFabric is a set of integrated technologies that make it easier to build, scale and manage Web and composite applications that run on IIS.

With the web application I maintain, 100% of the data is static. It may be updated as often as once a day, but there is zero user input. So, we take every advantage of HTML5 storage. We store every ajax request, as well as search results based off a hash of the search criteria on the client side as stringified json. Once you run a search, running that identical search (or re-retrieving the results to select another result) nearly instantaneously loads the results from the cache. Once the server-side data is updated, we updated a timestamp cookie which triggers a clear of the client side cache. Easy as pie.
